Vive Spanish Immersion is a 30 day immersion Spanish program that takes you to a beautiful piece of heaven in Colombia. It is our responsibility to warn you ahead of time because according to testimonials, once you go through this journey, you don’t want to go back home.
During this month you learn a good deal of conversational Spanish, learn about the lifestyle in Medellin, Colombia and get exposure to colombian culture, art and history. The learning methods are very engaging, active and fun.
Medellin is a city in Colombia with more than 2 million people in population. The city is renowned as the “City of Eternal Spring” because of the beautiful weather that never changes.
Medellin also has another reputation. Beautiful flower farms remind you of a place you would dream of. Every year the city hosts a gigantic flower festival called “Feria de las Flores” where you can enjoy the parade and many concerts in the city.
Medellin hosts a beautiful flower festival every year thanks to the numerous flower farms in the region.
If you appreciate good coffee, Medellin should be your destination for learning Spanish. You can take a day to discover the journey of Colombian coffee from bean to brew. Some small farms host visitors who are curious about the process. You also get to taste some freshly brewed coffee on the spot.
The region is beautiful and exploring it is going to be a memorable trip for you. But learning Spanish in Medellin adds extra fun to the mix. There are not many Spanish language schools in Medellin but those few are very good. In this article we are introducing a different way to learn Spanish in Medellin. I have a feeling you’re going to like it.
The Spanish course I’m presenting to you here is an experience. You’ll spend a month in Colombia, learning Spanish language, understanding the culture and living like a local. This amazing experience has so many perks that we can’t put it in one single blog article. You have to experience it yourself but I’ll try my best to give you an idea.
The Vive Spanish Immersion course is not anything like the traditional language classes you’ve seen before. You learn Spanish language in a very unique and innovative way. You should first travel to Medellin in Colombia.
You are responsible for booking your flight to Medellin. It’s an easy destination and you can get tickets on any flight booking site like kayak or expedia.
Someone from the school will pick you up at the airport. You’ll be driven to the school which is about a 30 minutes drive. The school used to be a finca which means farm in Spanish language. It’s a big farm with modern accommodation facilities built inside it. You’ll be impressed by the beauty and authenticity of the school.
The Vive Spanish Immersion school is close to the city but feels like millions of miles away from any civilization. It’s the perfect place to focus on yourself, take a break from everything and learn about the world.
At the beginning you get acquainted with the hosting team, environment and the culture you’re going to be immersed in. You are going to start speaking Spanish from the very beginning. This is what immersion is after all. I recommend revisiting some of those DuoLingo lessons you took to impress the teachers and the other students.
The knowledge of the Spanish language you’re acquiring during this program is in compliance with the Common European Framework. You’ll be teamed up with four other students. Each circle is going to have a personalized experience while all students in each cohort get to communicate with each other during the course of the month.
Each cohort starts at the beginning of the month and finishes at the end of the month. During the month you’ll participate in many activities that help you learn about Colombia and its culture, visit the city and other tourist attractions, have fun, make friends and most importantly, learn Spanish language.
You’ll get to spend some time in the city of Medellin, hang out with other students in a cafe or bar and maybe meet locals. Other trips to tourist attractions in the region would be organized for you too. You’re going to be learning Spanish while travelling around.
An innovative way of connecting with a culture and learning Spanish at Vive Spanish Immersion is through storytelling. The school invites Colombian actors and singers to come to the school and put on plays for you. They tell you about legends, myths and fairy tales.
By singing songs and dancing Vive Spanish Immersion shares the Colombian heritage with you while teaching you new vocabulary. The beauty of these teaching methods is that you don’t even feel like you are in a classroom.
Many cultural activities including music, dance, visual arts and storytelling help students connect with the local culture and traditions.
A general doctor is present at the finca with you to make sure you are well taken care of. The school also offers other free services by the local doctors like dental cleaning and optometry. The secret is, you’ll be learning medical terminology in Spanish while taking advantage of these services.
Since we’re visiting the countryside, let’s live like them. Have you ever tried milking a cow in your life? Vive Spanish Immersion gives you the chance to experience things that are rare nowaday. Planting a tree or milking a cow might seem like simple activities but they help you learn more about the harmony in nature, old traditions and farmer lifestyle.
During your month in Colombia, the school organizes a couple of trips for you so you explore the region and learn more about Colombia and Medellin. The fees are included in the price of your course and they are part of your language learning process.
Vive Spanish Immersion organizes trips around the region for the students to show them the tourist attractions and practice Spanish in a more fun way.
You’ll get to spend some time in the city of Medellin, hang out with other students in a cafe or bar and maybe meet locals. You’re going to be learning Spanish while travelling around.
La casa en el aire is a hotel built out of wood next to a cliff. It has a breathtaking view of the Andes mountains. Vive Spanish Immersion organizes a visit but if you want to stay at the hotel overnight, you need to cover the charges.
Arví Park is an ecological nature preserve going back to the Pre-Hispanic times. It’s located at the north of Medellin and it offers many outdoor activities like hiking and cycling.
You are going to visit a giant rock known as “Guatapé Piedra del Peñol” in another town. People scale this rock to the top via a 650 steps staircase to chill a bit in the seating area, enjoy the view and visit the Virgin Mary shrine. If you don’t feel like going all the way up, a couple of activities and markets beside the base keep you entertained.
Fincas in Colombia are very popular. Finca is a Spanish word that literally translates to farm in English but in the local context, finca is a cabin (cottage) in the more beautiful area outside of the city where people go for weekend getaways.
Vive Spanish Immersion is actually taking place in a beautiful finca close to Medellin. The founders of the school are the owners of the finca and they’ve built beautiful luxury buildings inside the finca to host students coming from all over the world.
Finca is a cottage in the more beautiful part of the countryside around the city where locals go to relax and have a good time.
You’ll stay in a room inside the finca for a month and spend your days learning Spanish. You’ll be away from all the stress and honking cars in the city. It is going to be the trip you remember forever. The fact that you don’t have to commute saves you time. You get more exposure to Spanish language day and night which accelerates your learning speed.
Vive Spanish Immersion has prepared high quality lodging facilities for students’ comfort.
Professional cooks prepare your meals for you everyday. You’ll get to try some local dishes and learn about Colombian cuisine. Everything is included in your course price so you don’t need to worry about any details. You just show up at the school and enjoy yourself while learning Spanish.
All the members of Vive Spanish Immersion are local. Your teachers, cooks, school administration, artists, doctors, guides, everyone is speaking Spanish as their first language. This encourages you to keep practicing Spanish at all times.
Every month a new cohort starts and the maximum number of students is 15. A group this size makes the experience more fun and personalized. There is one teacher for every 5 students.
Most of the time you’re doing fun and engaging activities that help you with some aspect of Spanish language. You learn new vocabulary all the time and keep hearing them over and over.
The reason all the team members are Hispanophone is not only to force you to speak Spanish. The purpose is to give you an authentic Colombian experience.
The teachers and other members of the team are all Hispanophone locals.
Vive Spanish Immersion is aiming two important things at once. One one side teaching Spanish and Latin American culture to those who are interested is a compelling mission to have. But it doesn’t stop just there.
Vive Spanish Immersion is working with the Caballito de Mar Foundation in order to support the local community with medical, education, environmental and urban planning aspects of life. The goal is to fund initiatives to improve the quality of life in the region with the profits from the language courses.
Be part of this act and help the locals by enrolling in this life changing Spanish course.
