I studied at University of Quebec in Trois-Rivières for 5 weeks during the spring of 2016. It was really the best experience in my life. Thanks to the Explore program, I met many amazing people from all regions of Canada. In addition, I improved my French and better understood Quebec culture. It was an unforgettable experience and I would like to return to Quebec in the future. A big thank you to the teachers and the animators at EIF for this amazing experience!

This July I was able to take part in the Explore program in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I never really intended to go to Winnipeg (it being my last and unintentional choice) but I had a really wonderful experience there! I was able to improve my French A LOT and gain a lot more confidence in my speaking abilities. The people I met here, the teachers, and monitors were all exceptional. I would recommend this program to anyone who wants to learn French/improve their French, as well as those who want to meet new people and take part in a great learning experience. J'adore Explore!

I had the time of my life at the Explore program! Five weeks of eating, learning, and even dreaming in French, all the while forming life-long friendships! My french is much better, and I've learned more about Quebec culture in these five weeks than I ever thought possible. I would highly recommend this to everyone, regardless their level of French!

    What is Explore?

Explore is a five-week intensive French-immersion bursary program that is offered during the spring or summer for people with any skill level in French. Explore participants are awarded a $2,200 bursary (taxable income) that covers tuition fees for the course, instructional materials, meals, and accommodation. You will discover another region of Canada while learning French in classes adapted to your language level. Through classroom instructions, workshops, sociocultural activities, and field trips, you will not only improve your language skills, but discover the culture of a new region as well, all while exploring, meeting new people from across the country, and exchanging ideas in a stimulating environment perfect for learning the French language. Experience something new and discover your country and your strengths through Explore!

    Why Should You Explore?

Knowing more than one language opens up whole new worlds to you, and in Canada, this is especially true of French, where it is one of our country’s two official languages! Approximately 22 per cent of people in Canada speak French as a first language, and approximately 3 million Canadians speak French as a second language, making it a fantastic way to connect with your fellow Canadians. Globally, French is spoken on five continents and is either the or one of the official language(s) of over 33 countries. French is an official language of the United Nations, the International Red Cross, the Olympic Games, and the Government of Canada and is an asset no matter what field you decide to work in. Knowing a second language is essential — and French can help you get around almost anywhere in the world. So why not seize this opportunity to increase your chances of having the best possible future?

Can I have someone stay overnight?

You will be staying in a student residence or home-stay that can only accommodate the bursary recipient.

Can I change accommodation during the program?

Generally, no. If you have a major issue, contact the host institution.

Can I share a room in residence or a homestay with a friend if we are both accepted?

Maybe! If you are offered a bursary, the institution will send you a welcome package with more information on lodging, among other things. If you and your friend receive a bursary for the same institution and same session, you could then communicate with the institution to find out how to go about sharing a room or a home-stay. Either way, you’ll have a great experience!
